When my brother (a Cape Bretoner) married a girl in Grand Falls, Nfld, I requested a special tune be played shortly after the first waltz: I'm Going Home to Marry a Newfie Girl". It was a hoot.

The Newfoundlanders I know are not at all concerned about being called Newfies. You run a greater risk of eliciting a negative with some Newfoundlanders if you call them "Canadians" ... a legacy of the debates when Newfoundlanders voted on joining Canada in 1949.
