Being a master of the unprofitable arts (pottery, music, writing), I've evolved a theory for successful arts finance. Every musician, artist, etc, needs a Designated Responsible Income Producer spouse (DRIP). Before being allowed to play in a bar, the manager will ask to see the DRIP who brought you. S(he) will provide financial data--W-2s, 401ks, etc, to prove that you are not endangering yourself or others by playing there. This is not a new idea. As it says in Pig in a Pen, Got that pig, home in the pen, corn to feed him on, All I need is a pretty little girl, to feed him when I'm gone...
