Subject: RE: Any other Newfoundlander's around here
I know I won't count as a Newfoundlander but from the sound of it may be the closest thing to answer. I lived in St. Anthony, Newfoundland for a while and still believe they were the best years of my life. I have lived in several communities across Canada but none can compare with the sense of warmth, caring and shear fun of the Newfoundlanders. Even though the community I live in now has musical evenings they can't compare with the spontaneous, whimsical evenings we had there in the middle of the long winters. Someone was sure to pull out a harmonica, or squeeze box or a fiddle (along with a flask of rum) and the next thing you know the evenings warming up. When I hear someone called a "Newfie" I immediately look to see who! so I can talk to them. I now live on the "other" coast and look forward to a still distant retirement so that I can return.
