I grew up in Jackson Heights, first on 81st Street between 37th and 35th Avenues -- there is no 36th Avenue in that part of Queens -- and later on 77th Street between 35th and 34th Avenues. I went to PS 69 and later to JHS 145 (now IS 145).

Since Rudy sold the Cafe Greco, there haven't been any folk acts that I know of at that venue, but from what I understand Jackson Heights is still a veritable hotbed of folkdom. You have Eric Levine in the neighborhood, and Susie Tanenbaum, and five -- count 'em, five -- board of directors members of the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club. And you have all that good music at the Renaissance Charter School.
