Hotmud Family, 1970s. Can't think at the moment where the album is, or what their source was, but maybe this will jog someone else's memory. It was on their Vetco string ragtime album.

I just checked the Levy site, it is there as By The Watermelon Vine, Lindy Lou~~words and music by Thomas S. Allen, 1904. Unfortunately, their copy is damaged and all that remains is the cover and the music for mandolin.
