Thread Name: Lyr: '..and she shall have diamonds and pearls...'
Subject: HOW TO TITLE THREADS, II
It's been awhile since the earlier discussion of this topic, so I thought I'd post it again for newcomers:

Folks, it would be lots easier to scan this discussion list, and folks would find their queries easier to answer if we could adopt a few conventions about naming threads. A generic name "Lyric request" doesn't tell folks reading the thread list much about what you're looking for, or allow you to track your particular query amidst all the others also just titled "lyrics needed", "Song needed", etc. Some suggestions:

1. If you post a new thread looking for a particular song, try titling the thread "Lyrics:Song name here", "Tune:Song name here" or "Key word or phrase in song" if you don't know the title. If you're looking for several songs by a particular group, artist or type, give that info in the thread title; examples that work are "Maritime music", "Kingston Trio lyrics", "Celtic fiddle tunes", etc. The thread title gets truncated at about 30 characters, so put the important stuff first. Don't bother to type out "request" or "REQ"; your actual song title will get cut off. A long discussion about abbreviations like "L" for lyrics, "C" for chords, etc concluded that it would be too difficult to maintain a code that every new visitor would quickly understand.

2. If you're answering a query about one song, don't introduce a query for a completely different song in that thread; start a new one!

3. Don't repeatedly hit the "Submit Message" button if the system doesn't seem to be responding; multiple postings of the same message use up time and space.

An unrelated request (I'm violating suggestion 2 already) regarding etiquette: if you feel uneasy about signing your name to a comment you're making about someone else's questions or opinions, perhaps you should think twice about sending it.. This has been a remarkably civil discussion group for the most part, but there always seem to be those folks who feel compelled to make snide comments, and they never seem to feel like signing their rude responses...If you're afraid to own up to it, don't send it, please! Thanks, I'll get down off my soapbox again (I always was afraid of heights)...
