The back cover has a note: 'An outstanding collection of pre-war recordings by the legendary old-time musician Clarence 'Tom' Ashley'. 'Outstanding' is an understatement. Given the unwritten law of the reissue business - that the very best will disappear more quickly than one could possibly comprehend - anyone interested in old-timey, 'white tradition' blues or early commercial recordings of folk performances should grab this while it is available.
