Ian, Many thanks for your input. My guess is that the first two lines of your suggested lyric may be a clue as to the original. Do you know the origins of the link you supplied? There may be a contact point I can try to see if the guy knows the original? Still open to other suggestions from anyone else about the song (fasinating though the history of "the winkle" is, I'm quite desperate for the lyric! Its become a personal quest) Cheers Martin
