What's interesting about this whole thing called the Mudcat Cafe is the level of personal sharing among folks who seem to be perfect strangers. I have been quite impressed by the heartfelt wishes, and expressions of sympathy I have read. I find it a little difficult to extend myself in that way to folks whom I never may meet. But here goes.A couple of weeks ago, a teaching position opened up at a community social service organization in the town where I live. The position is for an instructor in the computer lab. I applied for the job. I hope I get it. I'd appreciate you good thoughts and best wishes.
Now for the personal sharing. I applied for the job because I couldn't figure out a way to expand from being a local performer into a national touring act. The catch is I can't drive at night. And when do musicians go to work? At night, mostly, of course. Finding a suitable partner has been next to impossible, for most in fact all of the folks I know have real jobs and really can't take off two or three weeks to go on tour.
I think I'd like the teaching gig. I'd be working with disabled adults who are interested in computing. The hours are regular, and the pay is about twice what I ever made working a straight blue collar job. And I do have some teaching experience.
So here goes, and wish me luck
Jim
