I have the Tony Dixon plastic flute and can't recommend it. Admittedly, I've never been a flute player, but I can't even get a decent sound out of it and doubt if I'll ever learn if I don't get something that's easily playable. Luckily, I purchased mine with interchangeable flute and whistle mouthpieces so I ended up with a nice low-D whistle, and for not too much money either.
