Well, ya'll are inspiring me. I think I may use the following as an introduction and Deckman, with your permission, I may call it "Touchstone" with some sort of explanatory sub-title, as I really like that! Remember, please, this is a rough draft!

Ever since I can remember, my Grandfather Hudson has been a very large presence in my life, despite the fact that he died one year before I was born. I always *knew* him as he came alive through my dad's stories of growing up with this larger than life character of the old ranching West.

Dad always accuses me of being an ancestor worshipper; he says it with a smile. I know it pleases him, this quest of mine to share his obvious love of his dad and their early way of life in Western Colordao.

May this book, with additional family stories, asides, and early photographs, serve as proof that I stand as accused: enamoured with my ancestors and proud to share them with you.
