Thread Name: Camper radio station WDVX
Subject: Camper radio station WDVX
Hadn't read the O Brother thread in awhile and didn't realize it had become a discussion of radio station formats. Then, to my great chagrin, I realized I've never let Mudcatters know about one of the more unique radio stations around.

WDVX, broadcasting from a 14-foot camper in a campground near Clinton, Tennessee (in East Tennessee), features a broad range of bluegrass, old country, what they refer to as "alternative country," blues, traditional, Celtic and other genres.

In May they are hosting "in our backyard" a Camperfest with three days of live picking. Parts will be broadcast live on the station and the internet at:

camper radio

Click through a couple of pages to get to the live webcast of their current program. This weekend they have featured interviews and some live pickin' from Merlefest.

The station was started on a back porch and later moved to the camper. It is wholly supported by listener and corporate donations. It is a public radio station, but is not affiliated with any school or organization, nor does it receive any public or government funding.

They have heavily featured music from the O Brother soundtrack, play mostly bluegrass and old timey gospel on Sunday mornings, occasionally feature Carter family and Jimmie Rodgers recordings, etc.

This time of night (after 10 p.m. EDT), they have sort of weird stuff on a program called The Fringe, so if you tune in right now you'll get a rather skewed idea of their music. But be sure to check it out Sunday morning and afternoon. You Hope you enjoy the station.
