No it wasn't a lot of fun. The thing was though that, if you came through, you came through, and I think it gave a whole generation a sense of being invincible. It really was a case of "things can only get better", and for a long time, they did. (And then I think they started getting worse, and a lot of of the good things that had come out of that time got stomped into the ground.)
Bomb sites were fun though, once the bombing was over, if you were too young to think about why they were there.
