Hey, I listened to Oscar Brand as a child, and every so often as an adult I'd hear one of those songs and *blush scarlet* as I understood them for the first time! My parents would explain if I asked, but somehow it adult terms so although I would stop asking, I didn't understand... great approach, I use it with my kids when I don't want to explain something! He has a great version of Columbo, which is about Columbus, not strictly speaking a pirate, but it is certainly naughtical, ha ha! It's sung "He knew the world was round-O, his [beard] hung to the ground-O" but I'm sure "beard" wasn't the original word...
