I was fortunate enough to play Union Grove in a band that had won the year before I joined (1963). It was one of the most exhilarating experiences I have ever had in what has become 40 years of playing bluegrass. I have never, ever, before or since, played for such a hot audience. They applauded for everything, including trio-singing. Of course, the fact that the band included David Grisman and Winnie Winston didn't hurt.
