Today April 7th 1915, the Cunard liner Lusitania was torpedoed about ten miles off the Irish coast and sunk with the loss of 1198 lives in 18 minutes. Controversy still exists as to whether she was carrying explosives. Another theory is that the massive damage to the ship was as a result of the coal dust exploding following the attack.
