Others have commented on the slowness of today. As for being elsewhere, I know these two editors of different papers, who used to work together and therefore keep in touch by phone. Occasionally one or the others hurriedly breaks off the conversation with, "Sorry, Joe, gotta run. Everybody's out at the big crash / riot / demonstration .... See ya," and hangs up, leaving his opposite number to wonder if this is just the usual BS or if something is really going on. There are demonic possibilities there, I'm sure.
