It's not folk, but back in the 70s, I believe, there was a pop song called "Telephone Man". The chorus of which started something like this:

Hey, baby. I'm the telephone man.
If you tell me where you want it,
Then I'll put it where I can.....

Unfortunately, or fortunately, perhaps, I don't remember too much about it.
