Bill Sables has been playing folk music since the early 60's and has appeared at clubs, concerts. radio, TV, and festivals in three continents. He plays tenor banjo, mandola, mandolin, melodeon and guitar and sings with the trio. Most of his songs are traditional from his native Tyneside but there are also a scattering of songs from Scotland, Ireland and the USA in his program.

Sam Pirt, born in Hull East Yorkshire, is one of the best accordion players in the UK. He has won numerous competitions for accordion playing as well as the Young Folk Musicians award for B.B.C.'s Radio 2. He has played at various festivals including Cambridge UK, Whitby UK, Tonder Denmark, and Flaun, Sweden. He plays with the award wining band "422". Sam plays tunes from England, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Scandinavia, and French Canadian regions. His use of syncopated rhythms and impossible bass lines usually captivate his audiences.

Ian Stephenson, although only young plays guitar like he has been playing for fifty years, he is also a very good melodeon player. Ian also plays with "422" and has therefore played the same festivals as Sam with the addition of playing in the Gulf States representing the UK.

Bill and Sam played together throughout the UK for five years in Bill's Ceilidh Band "Shananikins" where Ian joined them occasionally for special gigs. When the band split up in January, 2000, Bill, Sam, and Ian decided to work together.
