I recall many years ago sitting in my favorite Ir*sh bar in Phila. One of the guys who had been drinking a bit asked me how I enjoyed my Thanksgiving turkey. I told him I had spent it with some Chinese friends and we had steamed fish and bean curd. He didn't look happy about that. He seemed to think the American thing to do was to eat turkey on Thanksgiving, and anything else was unpatriotic.Being a young pedantic sn*t at the time I informed him that Thanksgiving can't be an American holiday. The nation hadn't formed yet when the custom started.
Fortunately, older wiser bodies came over and bought drinks all around, and blood didn't flow.
I'm glad things have opened up back there and you can admit publicly to eating bean curd on Thanksgiving ;-}
