By God, Larry, it IS the Conservative Cavalry!Okay, MAV, what are you up to using my name to launch another political thread? A low blow, sir. I hope you roll around all night sweating with remorse for having done this!
Besides, the intricacies of the left-right squabbles in the US Congress are simply too much for me to bother to keep track of. We've got conservatives of our own to deal with in Ontario, Canada, and that uses up enough of our energy as it is.
If I could convince Mike Harris to resign, move south, become an American citizen, join the Republican Party, and run for Congress I would. But I can't. He likes his little fiefdom here in Ontario, and he's a stubborn man.
So, whaddya want from me? :-)
By the way, I've noticed that in Canada as well as the USA, parties can "scrape into power with a razor-thin majority"...or even a minority of the popular vote (happens quite often in a multi-party system)...and the very next day they are acting like they have a TOTAL mandate to do anything they want. Why? Because they can. As they say, "power corrupts".
I believe it would be better to run a government (or any group of people) by consensus than by majority rule, but given the present competitive and disrespectful attitudes that are prevailing in mainstream society, consensus would be very, very hard to achieve.
