I bought a Sony minidisk walkman and I'm amazed at the sound it produces. You can't mix tracks or anything but for just me and the guitar it does fine. I then run it through Cool Edit on the computer and burn it onto a CD. I think the minidisc to computer connection converts it to analog but I can't see where it loses much in the transistion. What I do is work on songs and record them on to the minidisc. Then I make a CD of my work off of the computer. I listen to this (mostly in the car) so I can critique my own performance and make mental notes of what I could do differently, songs that just don't work well for me, etc. It's so easy and hassle free. I just ditch the "practice" CD's when I've learned all I need from them. It also helps with memorizing lyrics. And I actually produced one CD that I've sold a few copies of - no complaints from anybody. So that's my two cents worth - I'd go with a minidisk.
