my boyfriend & i just bought a MD recorder yesterday to tape a show tonight. There was one important thing the research uncovered: we were going to buy a low-end SONY (MZR500) but the input is such that it would have required a mic with phantom power. Instead, we got the higher-end model (MZR700) and a "regular" condenser mic will work fine.
