When I was a boy (say 40 years ago) there was a song played on kids'radio programmes called Peter Ponsil(I think) and his Tonsil. It described the operation and the aftermath in comforting terms: "But icecream tasted wonderful, how good it made me feel/And so I had a great big dish of ice-cream every meal" And finished with the reassuring notion; "Now almost every other child will be just like PP/For that is all that happens when they take away your tonsil"
