Interesting that you should bring up the song Gramma's Lyesoap. The words were written by my father-in law in the early fifties, while he was recuperating in a Veteran's hospital.Johnny Stanley was entertaining in the various veteran's hospitals, in Canada at he time and was stuck for a song for one of his skits. My father-in-law, Bob, came up with the song based upon a real character from his childhood, a Mrs. Billy Clark, of Simpson, Saskatchewan.
When Stanley was going to make the record, he asked Bob if he wanted credit for it and my father-in-law suggested he send any royalties for it to the Veterans instead.
He never found out if Stanley in fact did, but there is a bit of trivia for you. Bob is still alive and well and playing his fiddle in Victoria, BC at the age of 83.
