I suggest you try your local library before you splash out actual cash to buy one. My library has lots of computing books and even a cybercafe where someone can get you started and give you a few tips. I always think that trying to learn computing from a book is like tring to learn to knit or crochet from a book - almost impossible. It's much easier if you have someone to show you. Our local colleg also runs an evening course entitled "computers for the terrified". There's probably a course like that near you. Good Luck
