I like Brecht and Weill. There is the magnificent offensiveness of Mahagonny - it's not just the songs either. Other unmissable Brecht songs include "Die Legende vom Toten Soldat" and "Choral vom großen Baal". Brecht was a man who could be brilliantly rude and sharp at the same time when using very simple language. I'm not sure I'd have wanted him as a friend, but his work is an inspiration.
