Funny this thread should show up now, as, just this past Saturday, I saw a production of 'The Threepenny Opera' performed in Universal City/Hollywood, CA. It was directed by a member of the 1950s N.Y. cast and based on that production.
The music is very avant-garde, at times disonnent, and very interesting. I felt the performance was not as acerbic and ironic as the material seems to call for...none-the-less I enjoyed it.
If you are in the L.A area, it is at Theatre West, but it closes Sunday, I believe.
