Vol I-IV.   * CHILD, Prof. Francis J., English & Scottish Popular Ballads. Vols 1-5. Dover. Pbk 1965 The definitive work on ballads including variants and investigations into source and background. Still unsurpassed a century after publication.

*Claude M. Simpson 'The British Broadside Ballad and Its Music' Rutgers Uni Press 1966 (a 900-page tome) has music for many broadsides.
