For all the proclaimed advantages of "going decimal" I wonder in retrospect what was gained. It is more dificult to divide items equally using a decimal base than using a base of 12. [2 x 6; 3 x 4; 4 x 3; 6 x 2, etc]
Probably one reason Napolean's attempt at introducing decimal time measures failed! [60 x 60 x 24 x ...]
Could it also account for better mental arithmetic skills generally, or is the decline more to do with calculators, electronic tills, bar code readers, etc?
I suspect it could be due to all of the above.
