Thread Name: French Song, "Je Regret Toujours Mon Pere"?
Subject: Anyone Know This One?
First of all, please forgive the spelling; my French has disimproved from mediocre to awful with the passage of time (a lot of time)...

Quite a time ago I heard a song whose name I don't know, and I also don't know where I heard it. It was written from the point of view of a child whose father was lost at sea in a sudden gale, and it had a refrain that sounded something like, "o-laddie-o-laddie-ay."

The only lyrics I recall had something to do with the father having perhaps had a chance to eat a cake the child had baked, "avant de la tempete" (and again, please forgive the spelling), and the last verse ending, "je regret toujours mon pere."

Has anyone the words to this? I have a vague memory that it was on a tape or perhaps a commercial recording from Canada, but it was never mine and I don't know for certain.

Hopefully,
Ol' Dad GAD
