Cranky - you do indeed have a valid point. There have been some writers who refer to that branch of my family as "First Americans". When and where those folks came from is presently a topic of hot debate in academic circles. Like many, many others, I have "roots" that both pre- and post-date Columbus, so I reckon I can be considered "native" by most any definition of the word. I do think you might want to take a closer look at definitions of the word "indigenous". The most common definition is "born in" a place.
