We crossed the border just last month going north from Seattle. Of course we were 2 adult - no kids - but the border guard was very nice and casual. All he asked us was our reason for travel { vacation } and where we were from. When we replied Texas he asked if we had any guns. We said no and he waved us through. He didn't ask for or check any paperwork at all. But we heard from a local that about one out of every 100 cars was stopped for a complete search. We saw no evidence of that.
