I wondered whether they've decided to move with the times and allow husband carrying as well - in which case the same partners could logically come first and second if they swapped roles. But the site doesn't give any indication of that.

Carrying a partner home from the pub is I believe a traditional activity in some parts of the world. Though a wheelbarrow version would be more likely to get more entrants.
