Slick will always sell better. Steve Earle will never sell as many records as Faith Hill. And the Kingston Trio will always outsell the Delmore Brothers. The vast majority of listeners are not going to want to work hard enough to develop a taste for music that the radio hasn't already decided is "popular". It's just too much work for them.
