Subject: Joseph Cooper - RIP
Another great entertainer has gone to the great orchestra in the sky. Joseph Cooper died on August 5th age 88. He is best remembered for the BBC programme "Face the Music" which ran on radio from 1966 and then from 1971 on television. Celebrities had to guess the identity of the music from a few bars which he played. He also had a twist in that they had to guess at least one tune by watching the movement of his fingers on a dummy keyboard. In earlier years before the radio and tv programmes he was a very good concert pianist. His career was interrupted by the Second World War in which he reached the rank of captain. In 1947 he made his concert debut and later played with the Philharmonia Orchestra. His recordings include "The World of Joseph Cooper."A gentle man with a great sense of humour and to quote Keats - "fled is that music."
