I'm reading my way through Iain Banks' catalogue at the moment. I particularly like the SF series published under the name Iain M. Banks (being somewhat of a SF nut). Favourites in this series are currently The Player of Games, Inversions and Excession.

Other favourites in different genres: Against the Current by Isiah Berlin and Meetings with Remarkable Men by George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff.
