New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island were, under French rule, known as Acadia (English spelling). When the Brits took over, things weren't so good for the Acadians. Many were "expelled" in 1755 for refusing to swear allegiance to the crown. Most ended up in and around Louisiana. Many returned, suffering great hardship. That's the Reader's Digest version, shortened considerably. Their history is long and their culture is vibrant. Great music. Great people.
