On the subject of drink measures. On Tyneside a woman would never go out for a pint or a jar, she would have a gill. Now technically a gill is a 1/4 of a pint but here in this instance it refered to a 1/2 pint. If you want a Newcastle Brown Ale ask for a Bottle of Dog (perhaps that's local to Tyneside).
