hmmm. McGrath said to me, what about folk clubs in brazil. and I sez...there ain't none in brazil. It is a fact of life that the traditional music of brazil ( or music that comes from afro/european and indiginous stock) is alive and well in all forms of POPULAR music here in the largest country in South America. i live in Recife in the Northeast of Brazil and we have a rich mix of music that goes from Coco to ciranda and maracatu, through Forró(which is very cajun). A few years ago a guy called Chico Science formulated a fusion of music that included all of the aforementioned mixed in with rock, jazz and rap. It may sound weird but it is actually quite fantastic and extremely dancable. There's also a thriving blues scene here in Recife with some excellent blues musicians ( singing in both portuguese and english) and some of the most outstanding harp players I've ever heard. Want more info. Just e-mail me at cheech_wiz300@yahoo.com and I'll try and send stuff your way.
