Well folks, the time has come. We have begun to dismantle and effectively gut Onstage Media. The economy is just too poor to maintain our overhead. If we're lucky, the first step will also be the last. We're down to 1 ½ elves, and enough space for 10, so we're giving up Mudcat Studio's within the month. Our lovely offices in the dead center of town with the great windows will be no more. The plan is to move a leaner meaner Onstage into my apartment (hopefully temporarily) to lower expenses. We are also trading the 1500Kb T-1 net connection for a much more affordable 762Kb SDLS line, which is half of the bandwidth and a fourth of the cost.

What does this mean for Mudcat? Thankfully for you, not much at all. The cut in bandwidth should not be even noticeable. For all the time with the T-1, the Mudcat and all our other sites and clients never took up even half of what we had, so half of what we had should do just fine. Reliability? Not sure. DSL is a bit new, and we're just not sure about it. We're planning a 10-day test before the switchover, so we should be reassured before D Day.

We won't be able to simulcast out of the pub downstairs anymore, but then again we only did it once anyway. I was trying to hang in there till after the Getaway, and still may try, so we can simulcast that performance. Otherwise we'll just do a taped delay. Stay Tuned.

Mudcat Radio? I suppose we could do it out of my apartment, but then I would have to tell MaryMac where I live. Hmmmm. As mentioned in earlier posts and shows, the weekly broadcast may lose its regularity, but I will continue to do some sort of broadcast here and there. I still want Catters to come visit me and such, so any time one or more of you all come to see me, we'll broadcast. I'm working part time jobs in the evenings now too, so nights off are a more precious to me. But I really enjoy it, so I will continue in some way.

Anyhow, for me this is merely another adventure. Don't worry about my mental state, just worry that I'll be able to pay rent on time. This stuff doesn't get to me too bad, it inspires me to head in new directions more than anything else. Lord knows I've been through worse. I'll keep you informed as things develop.
