It is quite true that the stated purpose of the legislation relating to public entertainment (Local Government [Miscellaneous Provisions] Act 1982) is to maintain public safety and control noise.But it is also true that for many years there has been very effective separate legislation that addresses both these issues. We are also shortly to get the Police and Criminal Justice Bill which will give police officers the power to close nuisance premises on the spot.
