Hi All. I danced the morris for many years with Derby Morrismen, But I fear that my dancing days are over since tearing a ligament at hergakitty's birthday party. In my opinion there are three main reasons why people dance (regardless of the type of dancing).
1) To be part of a team. A natural human condition. In morris this is usualy associated with large amounts of beer and sexual inuendo. See Ripley Morris!
2) To demonstrate prowess in athleticism (what I call "White Shoe Morris"). See Shropshire Bedlams.
3) To express a deep rooted, emmotional, empathy with some sort of pagan, earth mother, etherial being who helps the crops to grow. Which was Derby Morrismen's original ideal.
I personaly only ever danced for the "White Goddess" and I know many others who feel the same.
More Power To Your Ankles!!!

P.S. I don't blame Kitty or Herga Morris for my recent injury. I blame the 8.5 abv cider at Sidmouth.
I was a young man, I was a rover.
