Spoonerisms are named after William Archibald Spooner, a clergyman, Warden of New College, Oxford from 1093 to 1924.The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations cites "You will find as you grow older that the weight of rages will press harder and harder upon the employer", and "Her late husband, you know, a very sad death - eaten by missionaries, poor soul." My mother always said that Spooner was most famous for asking a congregation to sing "Kinquering Congs their Titles Take".
