Many of us in the UK are well aware of the evil side of our colonial past; the more recent times are well within living memory. What made Britain great is also what made Britain bad. But don't forget that while we elect politicians to run the country, we don't have any direct say in what they actually do. How many of you folks inthe US love your country? Most of you, I expect. And how many think it's fine just the way it is? It's the same over here. It's a great place, full of great people, but none of us are without fault, and we're all prone to make mistakes. And the political sins of the fathers are visited upon the sons.
