As most of you know I work on an Air Force base. Our unit is one of two that are tasked with responding to these "things." I've felt like I was in prison the last couple of days - bomb dogs sniffing our vehicles at the gate, searches of person and property by the Security Forces (SFS), only one entrance to the hospital and well guarded, two HUMVEEs with loaded M-60 machineguns overlooking the gate, and a million other things that remind me of another space in time. But we are here willingly. Many of our medics have gone to help someone somewhere - men and women, fathers and mothers, leaving their children behind on but a moments notice (2 hours to pack and go), and no outlet to talk about the insanity that has happened.
