Nothing quite as big, but most of Germany observed a five-minute silence this morning (roughly 5pm US time, don't know about the time zones), and during the past two days many people have gathered outside the American Embassy in Berlin and other buildings to pay their respects. There have been memorial services all over germany, tonight a chain of lights in honour of the victims was formed here in Kiel, and there have been calls for lights in windows on Saturday. Many people over here are afraid this may turn into a major war, and I'm sure many more are praying for peace in their hearts. No good for anybody will come of the destruction of yet more innocent lives. I'll put candles in my windows on Saturday and think of those who died horribly, and those who live on.
