I was at the session in Portsmouth, NH, and went outside for a walk. I ran into a couple of session regulars making their way toward Market Square holding not-yet-lit candles. I followed, and people stood around in a circle and sang. I mentioned We Shall Overcome to a friend, and she began singing. When she came to the end of the first verse, a woman across the circle started singing a second, and I came in with a third. We held hands, smiled sadly at one another, and some cried.
