More information on Melissa. The following is quoted from Can't You Hear Me Callin': The Life of Bill Monroe, by Richard D. Smith (Little Brown, 2000, pp. 266-7):

Sometimes Bill was joined at the Belle Cove by a female vocalist--his daughter Melissa. The finality of the divorce between her parents had been difficult for her, and the tours with her father in 1963 and 1964 rare ventures into the outside world. After her mother died, she became even more withdrawn. When Bill brought her to dinner or to sing with him at the Belle Cove, she brightened up, and her fine, strong voice was in evidence. But her performances of her popular composition "Is the Blue Moon Still Shining?" took on an extra pathos because it was clear that her own life had little radience. Melissa was a dark-eyed, lovely, pleasant young lady but noticeably fragile, not in good health. Her father was very protective of her.
Melissa's health declined. She ate poorly, gained a great deal of weight, and developed diabetes. On September 27, 1990, she was admitted to Hendersonville Hospital with heart and kidney problems. She was soon moved to the Hillhaven Nursing Home in Hendersonville, where she died on December 3 at age fifty-four.
