Well, I was looking to buy a guitar to keep in Canada and, partly due to Rick, I bought a Seagull 12 string from a shop in Toronto. I did all the things I don't suppose you should do (ie. bought sight-unseen) but the shop (12th Fret) were tremendously helpful and I've ended up with a guitar that I like a WHOLE lot. 12th Fret also say that they ship at least 2 guitars (not necessarily Seagulls) to Britain every week as the exchange rate makes it VERY favourable for us in the UK right now. I must say I reckon I've paid about half the price I'd pay over here...
